Which toys and activities are suitable for a nine month old baby?
At this age most babies will be sitting alone, some however for shorter periods if they have just learnt to do it. As such they still love playing with objects sitting down such as filling and emptying baskets or containers with objects, banging kitchen pots to make music and even clapping. You can spend time looking at picture books together - most babies show a keen interest in books. You can perhaps start creating a rack or shelf of baby-proof books which she can 'read' to herself. As far as toys are concerned, they can be introduced to more elaborate versions of shape sorters and tray puzzles, beakers that build into towers, simple blocks etc if it hasn't been done yet. Babies love toys that roll, so a ball will be intriguing for your curious baby. Then there are those who are beginning to pull themselves up and they would likely go for pushing about toys. It is important that babies are supervised when playing and also be sure not to introduce very small toys or toys that can be taken apart which they can choke on since they are still likely to place things in their mouths. Play-time involving your 'voice and hand' such as peekaboo, the itsy-bitsy spider, one, two buckle my shoes and many others are great fun and a good way to impart certain concepts like numbers in an entertaining way.
