Can the luggage scanning machines or metal detectors found at airports harm my baby?

The walk through and hand-held metal detectors are safe for both the unborn baby and the pregnant lady. The electromagnetic field emitted from both detectors are very low in frequency and are meant to detect metal objects on the person. The levels of electromagnetic fields found are the same as those found in household appliances. As for the luggage scanning machines, x-ray technology is used which checks for forbidden objects in hand-carry baggage without the need to open the bag.

These machines are safe enough unless you put a limb inside the machine in order for significant exposure to radiation to take place. The radiation level once again is very very low and therefore safe. If you are still uncomfortable with the idea, you can stand at the other end of the conveyor belt once you have put your items for scanning.
