Toys and Play (11 months old baby)

Playing in the Sand

Bury your hand in the sand and ask your baby 'Where is my hand?' she may pat the sand on top of your hand or dig for it. When she finds your hand, hold it up and exclaim 'There is my hand! You found it!' Next cover baby's hand in the sand and talk about how the sand feels, ask baby where her hand is. To make things more interesting, bury her toy and ask her to find; if she has problem finding it, help her.

Building blocks

Give your baby a few large plastic blocks to play with. He may stack or arrange them in a straight line. If he doesn't stack them, teach him how. Help him arrange the blocks in different ways. Talk about how the arrangement changes as you shift the blocks to different positions.

The photo album

Bring out the family photo album. Let him look at it. He is getting old enough to turn the pages. If he doesn't seem to recognize a familiar face, tell him who it is. Holding the album and turning the pages is a big accomplishment for baby.
