How is the C- section procedure carried out

Mostly an uncomplicated cesarean takes about 45 minutes to perform but certain complications can delay the procedure. Here is a quick look. Upon admission, after changing into your gown, your vital signs will be taken and your baby will receive constant monitoring. Medicine will be given to reduce the stomach acids. The lower abdomen and stomach area will be cleaned with antiseptic and shaved partially. A spinal block or epidural will be administered to provide pain relief which will come of use even after surgery. You will be given IV and a catheter will be inserted to collect urine. In the operating room oxygen will be given for breathing. A curtain will be hung between the mother and her lower body to prevent her from seeing the operation. After a horizontal incision is made on the abdomen and then either a horizontal or vertical incision on the uterus, it will only take 5 minutes for the birth, following which is the removal of the placenta. Next the uterus will be repaired and the external layers of the uterus and abdomen will be stitched up using sutures and staples and dissolvable stitches for closing up the internal layers, and this can take up to 40 minutes. You are then brought into the recovery room and allowed to stay in the hospital for 3-4 days to complete your recovery.
