What is an elective cesarean?

Elective cesarean means pre-planned op which is usually scheduled at the 39th week. In this situation the decision to deliver surgically is made jointly by you and your doctor while you are pregnant itself. Sometimes your gynecologist will advise you to have a surgery depending on the following circumstances: 1) If you have placenta previa or other placental complications that is life-threatening, 2)If you have pre-eclampsia that is affecting your well being or your baby, 3) If you have pelvic disproportion where your baby's head is too big to pass through the birth canal, 4) If your previous pregnancy and labor situation was difficult and seems to be repeating this time round as well, 5) If you are having a multiple pregnancy, 6) If your baby's position is not suitable and cannot be manipulated for vaginal delivery and if you have had a previous section.
