What is the twenty-week ultrasound?

Considered an important scan and also an exciting one because finally you can know your baby's gender, this ultrasound will also check details like the anatomy of your baby's brain, heart, the kidneys, limbs and bones, umbilical cord and amniotic fluid volume. Your belly will be sized up to see if it matches the gestational age. This ultrasound is one of the places where your doctor will be able to see markers for growth retardation or a hint that further testing is required for chromosomal problems. Additionally at this ultrasound a check for incompetent cervix may be arranged.
