Separation Anxiety - Prepare your child on what's to come
Contrary to what some parents believe, your toddler can comprehend your plans if it is explained simply. Get into the habit of telling him when you are going and where and for what purpose, just about an hour or so before heading out and then addressing it again just before you leave. Tell your child what she can anticipate when you are out e.g. some play time with the babysitter with her favorite puzzle or puppet game or a visit to the playground.
Also tell your child when she can expect you back by using an indicator such as after his lunchtime or after 'Sesame Street'. Even if your child doesn't understand now, he will eventually. The same technique can used when sending your child to, for example, his grandmother's place. Prepare your child on the way to the venue on what he can expect at his grandmother's place.
