Is tantrum a temporary concern or a here-to-stay problem?

Most tantrums manifest in children as young as 18 months and linger on till the child turns about 5-6. Tantrums occur in varying intensities and are considered by researchers as a normal phase of development. It first appears in some children before they turn two hence the term toddler tantrums.

Terrible twos, the well-known phrase, demonstrates the views parents hold of how common and terrible tantrums can get during this age. Handled correctly, the severity of tantrums reduces as the child grows older and is likely to taper down by the time he is 6. At 2, the ability to vocalize is less than say, in a child of 5 and that is why the out-of-control tendencies gradually lessens as the ability to express increases.
