Can breastfeeding be affected if you go on birth control pills?

This is an unnecessary concern according to experts because there is already a type of hormone present in breast milk which is similar to the hormone in birth control pills, and a little more will not make a difference to your baby. However the downside of taking pills is a decrease in milk production. This could lead to early weaning because even a slight fall in supply will result in a fussy baby at the breast. Contraception in the very beginning is not necessary because breastfeeding does offer conception control, especially if baby is exclusively breast-fed and on a frequent basis, periods have not returned and baby is not above 6 months yet. However if you want to totally prevent becoming pregnant, you will want to use some form of contraception once you become sexually active again.
