How long will expressed milk last?

Expressed milk is best kept cold but it can last up to 4 hours at room temperature. If you refrigerate immediately upon expressing, breast milk can easily last between 24 and 48 hours. If you are on the move, it is advisable to keep milk in a cool bag with ice packs or in a thermos and the milk will be good for about 24 hours. It is important for milk to remain cold if it was cold and still frozen if it was frozen upon reaching your destination. Never leave milk to thaw at room temperature and avoid overnight thawing.
