What is a good position for breastfeeding my baby?

Since a feeding session can take up time it is important to be comfortably positioned. You may lie down or sit up, whichever you find appropriate. A good position is one where you are able to stay in that way for some time without feeling achy or stiff. Your position should be such that you do not need to hunch since you are able to bring your baby to your breast. Your nipples should not hurt - poor positioning is responsible for sore nipples and poor suckling resulting in baby's low weight gain. Your baby must be close enough to your breast to take as much of the areola into her mouth when nursing.
